Venue information

The thirteenth annual meeting of the Association for the Scientific Study of Consciousness will be held at two locations.

Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities

The Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities (aka Berlin-Brandenburgische Akademie der Wissenschaften, or simply BBAW) is located at Gendarmenmarkt in the heart of Berlin.

The Academy has kindly agreed to co-sponsor the meeting, and will act as the main hub for events at the conference. In addition to hosting the tutorials on Friday, all plenary presentations (both keynotes and symposia) will be held in the beautiful newly restored Leibniz Hall of the BBAW.

All events Friday, Saturday morning, Sunday morning, and all day Monday will be held at the BBAW.

The conference venue can be reached by entering from the Gendarmenmarkt entrance at 38 Markgrafenstrasse.

Humboldt University

On Saturday and Sunday afternoon the meeting will move to Humboldt University (aka Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin or simply HU), where all poster and concurrent sessions will be held. HU is an easy and scenic 5-10 minute walk from the Academy. The main entrance is at 6 Unter den Linden.

Clärchens Ballhaus

The ASSC-13 banquet on Sunday, June 7 will be held at the famous Berlin institution Clärchens Ballhaus. Clärchens, as it is affectionately known, was opened as Bühler's Ballhaus in 1913 by Fritz Bühler. His wife Clara took over management after her husband died and named it "Clärchens Ballhaus". Since opening Berliners of all ages have been coming here to dance and have fun. It is said that if you dance long enough at Clärchens you will find true love. For those attendees interested daily dancing lessons are offered in many different styles (Salsa, Tango, Swing, ChaCha, Waltz etc.). The ASSC banquet will be held in Clärchens "Spiegelsaal" (mirror hall), a very special venue featuring walls lined with cracked mirrors, candle-lighting and an elaborate stucco-ceiling. Clärchens is located in Auguststrasse 24. Those looking for cheaper and simpler fare are invited to the poor person's pay-as-you-go feast in the beer garden at the back of Clärchens on the night of the banquet.
